چکیده

A. Rossi, CERN, Geneva, Switzerland Abstract The LHC room temperature sections will be coated with non-evaporable getter (NEG) materials for, among other reasons, their properties of antimultipactor. Laboratory measurements of secondary electron yields (SEY) of TiZrV NEG coatings have shown that after 2 h heat treatment at 160 and 200 C, the maximum SEY decreases from 2 to below 1.4 and 1.1 respectively. Saturation with H2, H2O, CO and CO2 at low pressure increases the SEY by about 0.1. This outcome is supported by the results on a NEG-coated chamber in the SPS accelerator ring, with LHC type proton beam. The untreated NEG surface multipacts as any unbaked surface, while no electron cloud build-up was observed after 4 h heat treatment at 250 C and subsequent saturation, mainly with water vapour. We give here a summary of secondary electron yield (SEY) measurements on NEG surfaces and present the results of electron cloud build-up measurements with NEG-coated vacuum chambers.

Vacuum and Electron Cloud Issues at the Gsi Present and Future Facilities

According to the international accelerator project at GSI, the double synchrotron SIS100/300 and a chain of storage rings will be built (using the present GSI synchrotron SIS18 as injector) in order to achieve high intensity and high energy heavy ion pulses for nuclear or plasma physics studies or anti-proton production. Dynamic vacuum instability and electron cloud are potential intensity limi...

Summary of SLAC’S SEY Measurement On Flat Accelerator Wall Materials

The electron cloud effect (ECE) causes beam instabilities in accelerator structures with intense positively charged bunched beams. Reduction of the secondary electron yield (SEY) of the beam pipe inner wall is effective in controlling cloud formation. We summarize SEY results obtained from flat TiN, TiZrV and Al surfaces carried out in a laboratory environment. SEY was measured after thermal co...

Measurements of the Electron Cloud in the Aps Storage Ring

Synchrotron radiation interacting with the vacuum chamber walls in a storage ring produce photoelectrons that can be accelerated by the beam, acquiring sufficient energy to produce secondary electrons in collisions with the walls. If the secondary-electron yield (SEY) coefficient of the wall material is greater than one, as is the case with the aluminum chambers in the 7-GeV Advanced Photon Sou...

TiN and TiZrV Thin Film as a Remedy Against Electron Cloud

In many accelerators running positively charged beams, ionization of residual gas and secondary electron emission in the beam pipe will give rise to an electron cloud which can cause beam blow-up or the loss of the circulating beam. One solution to avoid the electron cloud is to ensure that the vacuum wall has low secondary emission yield (SEY). The SEY of thin films of TiN and sputter-deposite...

Ecloud Build-Up Simulations for the FNAL MI for a Mixed Fill Pattern: Dependence on Peak SEY and Pulse Intensity During the Ramp∗

We present simulation results of the build-up of the electron-cloud density ne in three regions of the FNAL Main Injector (MI) for a beam fill pattern made up of 5 double booster batches followed by a 6th single batch. We vary the pulse intensity in the rangeNt = (2−5)×10, and the beam kinetic energy in the range Ek = 8 − 120 GeV. We assume a secondary electron emission model qualitatively corr...
